Thankfully Epic is bringing a mode to Gears 2 that some are sure to enjoy even more than playing through the campaign with a friend. It's called Horde and it allows for five human players to link up and do battle against wave after wave of AI-controlled enemies. I played it, it's awesome and it's going to ruin what little social life I have left. Wave good bye to your free time! Click below to read the full article.
Marcus Fenix returns to further fight the Locust horde in a tactical sci-fi third-person shooter. The writers and creators of Gears of War talk about the sequel and the novel.
Cineplex Entertainment is renting out downtime at its theatres to video gamers looking to play their Xbox 360 titles on a giant screen. Beginning on Friday, gamers will be able to book two-hour sessions at 29 Cineplex theatres across the country for $179 plus taxes. Up to 12 people will be allowed into the session to play their own games, or those from a supplied library, on the theatre's giant screen with surround sound. The Xbox 360, however, can only accommodate four players at a time. Interested? Click below for more information...
First off I just want to congratulate everyone who took part in this contest. I've judged many contest before, but I can honestly say that each and everyone of you have some serious designing skills. I sat down with the judges of this contest and played through each map about 10 times. We took our time reviewing the design of each map, how they played, the lighting, how you used your static meshes and texture placements, how bots react within your level, and last but not least... Was your map fun to play! After reviewing and tallying up scores we came to our final decision. However we did add in 4th and 5th place winners because the last two maps we so close to making into our top 3 we felt it was only fair to reward them with a little something. Again I would like to thank everyone for taking part in our contest. Please don't get discouraged if your map didn't make it into our top 5. We will be holding another contest within the next month or so... keep your eyes pealed.
I was searching the Unreal Tournament 3 Forum and came across a very interesting thread. As many of you know the Xbox 360 version of UT3 is outstanding but lacks one thing, let me rephrase that... UT3 for the Xbox 360 has fallen short of making UT3 what its really capable of doing. Not allowing the end user to create their own custom content is going to kill the longevity of this game. Unreal is known for its massive online community along with UnrealEd which enables the end user to create things as they see it. Why Microsoft chokes us off is beyond me, if you happen to feel the same way by all means click the link below and sign this petition. Microsoft needs to be working on the idea "if Sony can do it, we need to do it better." http://www.petitiononline.com/ut360/petition.html
After two long months of sleepless nights its now time to submit your maps. DevMods will NOT be accepting any maps on July 6th, so make sure you finish up your work on time (July 5th). I would like to take a second to thank everyone for their hard work, time, and the effort they spent on these awesome maps. This contest is going to be extremely hard to find winners. All the maps that have been submitted are just outstanding. I will be announcing the winners in about 1 week (July 12th). Thank you for being a part of DevMods! I would also like to wish everyone a Happy 4th of July!
The contest will start May 5th 2008 and end on July 5th 2008. You will have a solid two months to complete your map for Unreal Tournament 3. Please allow up to 2 weeks for Bret Hart and me to review the submitted maps. Once we have reached our decision the three winners will be notified for all to see! Interested? On June 30, 2008 the Xbox 360 will be getting a touch more than just Gears of War! Unreal Tournament III is making its way to the Xbox 360, so get your ass to the store and reserve your copy now! At Midway Gamers' Day 2008, the Xbox 360 version of Unreal Tournament III was playable for all who dared to challenge its wicked weapons, brutal bots, and all-new split-screen play. The play areas were set up to highlight this new functionality, with journalists and their posses of bots challenging each other to quick capture-the-flag matches on single TVs, with single systems. It was all good fun, especially when people got hurt. To read more please visit our forum, thank you!
When it makes it to Business Week, I think it's time to comment. Many people are talking about the Master Chief mod for Unreal Tournament 3, that allows you to play in the character of the Master Chief on the PS3. Many people are surprised Microsoft is "allowing" this. Actually it's nothing more than the Game Content Usage Rules in action. When these were developed, people all thought they were focused on machinima. The truth is that while they do address machinima they also allow for a lot of other things. Mods like this are one of them. The developers aren't selling the mod, they're not monetizing Microsoft's IP, they're just creating something to share their love of the Master Chief on a new platform. It's a great thing for us and a great thing for the gaming community. And much though I love my friends at Epic, Unreal Tournament isn't Halo. This will also remind people of just how great the Halo games are and remind them that if they're done with the user created faux Halo experience, the real Halo is available only on the Xbox 360. And no one is taking characters from PlayStation games (do they even have any games?) and putting them on our platform.

Today is the official day that we release DevMods into the world. I would just like to thank everyone who helped make this possible, you know who you are! Our forums are now open to the public, please read the forum rules and regulations before posting. As many of you know were associated with HaloMaps, one of the biggest halo modding sites next to HaloMods. With having much success in the Halo world I have no doubt the Unreal Tournament, and Gears of War modding will surpass that. I want everyone to understand that were not here to pull rank, were here to grow as one big family. I will make sure this community runs as smooth as possible. A comfortable work environment is extremely important to me. Thank you for your time, Now let the madness begin...
So by now there's a slight chance you've heard something about a little game called Gears of War 2. Well, the secret is out: Marcus Fenix returns in November 2008, and things just got a lot more interesting. Gears 2 is under development at Epic Games, the studio that created the original blockbuster, and they are hell-bent on bringing a bigger, badder, and even more intense experience to your Xbox 360 this holiday. Epic co-founder Mark Rein talks user-generated content and much more. A couple of weeks ago the co-founder of US developer Epic Games, famed for the groundbreaking Unreal series as well as Xbox 360 smash Gears of War, answered your questions on this blog. Now Mark Rein is back, chatting about the future of user-generated content, the Xbox 360 version of UT3 and life at the democratic republic of Epic. To read the entire interview please visit our forum, thank you!
Epic Games is making every effort to bring the Unreal Tournament III mod scene to Xbox 360, the developer has told CVG. The open nature of PlayStation Network has meant it's not been a problem bringing UT III mods to PS3, but Xbox Live's essentially closed network is causing a stumbling block. However, Epic VP Mark Rein has said the dev hopes "to find a way to bring mods over to the Xbox 360". "That's part of the reason we announced we were shipping the game on PC and PS3 this Fall, but we don't have a date for the Xbox 360 version - it'll be some time after the new year. Part of that is because we haven't been able to figure out just how we're going to do the mods. And Microsoft's got a very busy Christmas schedule... We just couldn't get enough attention from them to solve that problem", Rein said. So Epic currently doesn't have the answers to how the UT III mod scene on Xbox 360 is going to work, and it's something the developer isn't 100 percent guaranteeing will materialize - but it wants it to happen. "Worst case scenario is, we port them and we put them through certification and we put them up as downloadable content," Rein added. "That's the worse case scenario. Hopefully between now and whenever it is we ship on Xbox 360, we figure out a user-managed way to do it."

The tools you need to create Unreal Tournament III mods are available in the current UT3 Editor, which ships with the PC version of the game. You can start building and testing those mods, as many people already have, today on the PC version of UT3. This patch includes the necessary tools for converting mods to the PS3 format.
